The RSVP Carson and Rural Elder Law Program provides pro bono and low cost legal services to seniors (aged 60 and older) in 15 rural counties of Nevada. The main areas of focus are: estate planning (wills and trusts); Medicaid and nursing home planning; guardianships; debt and consumer issues; Social Security and Medicare issues; powers of attorney and advance directives; homesteads and real property issues; and elder abuse issues.
The Program provides the unusual service of housecalls to homebound and non-mobile seniors, including seniors residing in long-term and residential care facilities.
The Program does not provide any litigation services other than guardianship issues, and Social Security and Medicaid appeals.
The attorney for the Program, Lora E. Myles, Esq., was raised in Reno, and received graduate degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno, and Vermont Law School. Ms. Myles is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and is the author of several senior related pieces of legislation which are now Nevada law. She is a recipient of the ‘Senior Star’ award from the UNR Sanford Center for Aginig.
All services, except guardianships, are on a donation basis.
